Course Description
The Basic Networking and IP Routing Overview course is for field and operations persons who are involved with deploying, configuring and operating networking equipment, including microwave radios that transport Ethernet/IP data packets.
In this e-learning course are brief discussions on the fundamentals of computer networks. It covers the basics of networking, starting from the physical layer, moving up to switching concepts and the critical IP addressing. End-to-end data transport and the necessary upper layer protocols are also discussed. An introduction to VLANs is also included.
By the end of the module, the learner shall be equipped with the foundational knowledge of networking, enough to assist in troubleshooting small to medium-sized networks.
Completing a short assessment at the end of each module will provide students with credentials necessary towards the Aviat Network Associate certification level. (ANA)
Target Audience
Course is intended for technicians/engineers requiring a basic knowledge of IP and Ethernet technology within a transmission network
Prerequisites
PC with internet access, Internet browser software, AviatCare LMS Access
Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the basic networking concepts and the OSI model.
- Explain layer 2 switching and STP.
- Identify layer 3 functions and IP addressing.
- Understand layer 4 concepts and protocols.
- Describe DNS, ICMP and DHCP operations.
- Explain layers 5 to 7 functions.
- Understand VLAN concepts.
